Mehbooba surrenders, rebels go into silent mode
PDP leaders ask former CM to 'stay away,' sack her chamchas to save party from split

Early Times Report
Jammu, July 31: Rebel legislators of the Peoples Democratic Party who till the recent past were claiming that they enjoy support of more than 50 MLAs and would form the government in J&K seem to have gone into silent mode.
The six rebel PDP MLAs led by Imran Raza Ansari after raising the banner of revolt had announced that modalities have been finalized and very soon new government would be at place in the state.
Sources said that separatist turned politician Sajad Gani Lone, who has just two seats in the 87-member J&K Assembly, was "demanding a Lion's share" for striking a deal with the Bharatiya Janata Pary, whose legislators want to retain power by "hook or crook."
An insider revealed that another group within the PDP is holding secret talks with BJP to keep rebels and Sajad Lone out of power. "PDP President Mehbooba Mufti is even ready to give Chief Minister's chair some other leader and has almost agreed to stay away from the power," he added.
Sources said that the PDP rebels have sniffed that BJP leaders are holding side talks with their old friends and they are just watching the developments. "Lone asking for the Chief Minister's post has not gone well with the BJP leaders in the Centre as they are keen on having Hindu Chief Minister at place. The BJP leaders from J&K had agreed to make yet another compromise for the sake of power by giving up the demand of having Hindu Chief Minister at place but the BJP high command has not paid any heed to them," they added.
An insider revealed that PDP rebels were assigned the job to rope in all the disgruntled legislators so that they can split the PDP into two and claim that they are the "real" PDP. "They were planning to expel the party President Mehbooba Mufti and then form the party. One of the PDP leaders who is considered to be a key man within the PDP is believed to have thwarted their move," the insider added.
A source said that PDP leaders have reportedly told Mehbooba Mufti to keep away her family members and other chamchas, who have been misleading her, and allow them to take control. "Mehbooba in order to save her party from the split has almost agreed to dump her close aides and allow these senior leaders to take the command," he added.
A politician said, "Sajad Lone's dream of seeing himself on the top chair seems to have crashed. Even Imran Raza Anasri who wanted to be deputy chief minister has been pushed to the wall as the PDP leaders who are holding back channel talks are trying to assure the BJP central leadership that they would fall in the line."
He said, "Mehbooba Mufti is finding herself cornered and has almost surrendered as she knows that her party is at the verge of disintegration. She knows she has no choice other than to agree what other players within her party are saying."
