JAMMU, July 31: British International School, Sainik Colony, Jammu, and Social Forestry Department under Gandhi Global Peace Foundation (Jammu Chapter), takes yet another step to create awareness and spread the message of saving our planet by initiating a Tree Plantation Drive in the school. Chief Guest Neha Mehta, DFO Social Forestry Department launched the programme by planting the sapling in the premises of the School. The idea was to sensitize students about Environmental degradation and their role in it. The Chairperson, Geeta Sharma, thanked the guests for encouraging the students and emphasized that tree Plantation is not just something that should be done, instead it is a necessity, the urgent need of the hour. Planting of trees is especially important to protect our environment against air pollution and global warming. Principal, Magan Grover and UN Coordinator Jammu Chapter Pratibha Sopri, Jammu Chapter also welcomed the guests. The students were sensitized about the importance of trees in contributing to the environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, conserving water, preserving soil, supporting wild life and providing shelter, medicine and tools. Students and teachers gave their substantial contribution by planting the saplings of fruits, shrubs, medicinal herbs and others at various places in the school and also pledged to keep environment clean and green. |
