BJP mocks at MCC in Rajouri | Aspirant Sarpanch starts drain work to woo public | | Early Times Report
Sunderbani, Oct 24: An aspirant Sarpanch in Siot block of Rajouri's Sunderbani area has started work on a drain under MGNREGA to woo general public, in brazen violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Local residents informed Early Times that Sunil Verma, a BJP leader and aspirant Sarpanch from Daramsal Panchayat, started works worth several lakh of rupees in ward no. 3 recently. "To speed up the works, the BJP leader also used a JCB machine that further violates the MGNREGA's guidelines", the residents said, adding that the matter was brought into notice of concerned village level worker. But the RDD official preferred to ignore the people's complaint as the aspirant Sarpanch is backed by the BJP. The residents said that it was a move on the part of the BJP leader to attract voters in his favour. "The demand of lane drain in the locality remained unaddressed for a long time. It is also being alleged that the BJP leader deliberately kept the work on hold for his personal gain", they said, adding that since the dates of Panchayat elections are declared, he is trying to cash the opportunity. "Works for lane drain are being executed at par with widening of Jammu-Srinagar, road where round the clock men and machinery have been pressed to achieve targets", they said. When this correspondent contacted the BDO Siot, Ramesh Sharma, he said, "I don't know about this work. Let me check it." It is pertinent to mention here that the Chief Elector Officer, J&K, Shaleen Kabra had directed all Deputy Commissioners to implement MCC in letter and spirit. |
