No place for Jammu, Ladakh in BJP scheme of things | HM Rajnath's Kashmir visit | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 24: People of Jammu and Ladakh, who voted in large numbers in the just-held ULB polls and told the international community that they were committed to India and democratic processes, have place in the BJP scheme of things. Their vote to the BJP in April-May 2014, November-December 2014 and October 2018 has gone down the drain. The local BJP leadership is not that competent to project the feelings, needs and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Ladakh and that was why it could perform well in both the regions. It has abandoned all that Pt Prem Nath Dogra, Prof Balraj Madhok, Syama Prasad Mookerkee and Deendayal Upadhaya stood for, worked for and suffered. It only wants power and it does not mind alliance with even separatists like Sjad Lone of the Kashmir-based People's Conference. As for the BJP high command and the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre, they are taking the people of these two regions for granted and doping all that they could to appease Kashmir and Kashmiri separatists and half-separatists. It do not consider Jammu and Ladakh relevant; they consider Kashmir the most important factor. On June 19, the BJP withdrew its support to the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP-BJP coalition government. The government fell the same day. It was hoped that the BJP government at the Centre would adopt a new approach towards Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh State and conduct itself in a holistic manner. But it has not happened. What has happened to the contrary. The BJP government at the centre has made it loud and clear that it has no regard for the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Ladakh and that it would follow the policy Nehru charted 70 years ago. It was none other than Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who visited only Kashmir on Tuesday and met Kashmiri leaders like Mehbooba Mufti of PDP, Omar Abdullah of NC and GA Mir of Congress, who cleared all the cobwebs of confusion and reassured the Kashmiri leaders, excluding those representing the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus, that the BJP government was committed to protecting the special status of the state and that it had no plan to touch Article 35A and Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. The Centre has no proposal to tinker with any constitutional provision regarding J&K. There is no initiative by the Centre on this (Article 35-A). the provisions in the Constitution are there and the Centre has not tinkered with any of those provisions," said HM Rajnath Singh in Srinagar when asked about the poll boycott the NC and the PDP over the issue of Article 35-A. All this should serve to indicate that the BJP is no different from the Congress and that it will continue to pursue the line that promoted separatism and communalism in Kashmir and alienated the people of Jammu and Ladakh. |
