Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 29: The State High Court has directed Commissioner, Social Welfare Department, to go through the schemes which are in vogue in different parts of the Country for the benefit of transgenders and examine their workability in Jammu and Kashmir. A division bench of the court passed the orders after hearing Asif Ahmad Bhat, Additional Advocate General and one of the petitioners. The AAG submitted that the Government has no scheme for the benefit of the transgenders while the petitioner, who was present in the Court, stated that the Government has not bothered to frame any scheme for the benefit of transgenders even as several schemes are in vogue in different parts of the Country. "Let the Commissioner, Social Welfare Department, to go through the schemes which are in vogue in different parts of the Country for the benefit of transgenders and examine the workability of the said schemes for the benefit of the transgender community in the State of Jammu & Kashmir," the court said. The petitioners, the court said, shall be at liberty to make available the copies of the schemes which are prevalent in different parts of the Country as well as those which are prevalent in different countries before the Commissioner, Social Welfare Department. "These documents shall also be considered by the Commissioner, Social Welfare Department, who shall place a report regarding the workability of the said schemes in the State before this court within a period of four weeks," the court added. |
