Govt's silence over Ring Road Projects leaves farmers suspicious | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 29: Government's silence on Semi Ring Road projects in Jammu / Srinagar has created a suspicion among affected farmers as authorities are neither acquiring the land nor paying them the fair compensation. Inspite of allotment of the contract in February this year the work is yet to begin especially in Srinagar. In Jammu the work was started recently by the construction company but they had to stop the same after aggrieved farmers protested against them. As reported already the farmers affected by Semi Ring Road had a meeting with Advisor and the Chief Secretary in Budgam last month when both had visited the district to meet public delegations. In addition to other issues the visiting Govt functionaries discussed the Ring Road issue in detail as more than 4700 kanals of agricultural land will be acquired in district Budgam alone. Farmers impressed upon Advisor K and Chief Secretary to give same treatment to farmers from J&K what Govt of India and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) gives to other farmers across country. "The Divisional Commissioner Baseer Ahmad Khan assured us that within 20 days matter would be resolved; now a month has passed and we haven't heard anything from Govt." said G A Paul President of Land Owners Welfare Committee. "The justice can only be done when we are paid 4 times more than the market rate of the land which is already a norm across other states of country . We will not accept any other thing other than 4 times rate and this we have conveyed to advisor and CS as well " said Ghulam Ali Drazi an aggrieved farmers from Ichgam Budgam. As reported already Rs 939 crore semi ring road project was allotted to M/S RAMKY Infrastructure Ltd on Feb 28th this year. More than 6 months have passed the work is yet to begin. Govt has even failed to undertake cutting down of the trees as the affected farmers are agitated for not being paid fair compensation as per 2013 Land Acquisition Act of Govt of India. Few months back Advisor to Governor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai who also looks after Revenue department had assured affected farmers of the Semi Ring Road that justice would be done with them during land acquisition. A delegation of affected farmers had a meeting with Advisor (G) at Civil Secretariat on July 7th wherein they apprised him about the injustice being done with them in Jammu and as well as in Kashmir valley. The farmers from Jammu / Kashmir valley are now again planning to come on roads jointly . They are also planning Secretariat Gerahao next week when the durbar opens in Jammu. |
