Excise sleuths seize illegal consignment of polythene bags, cement | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, Mar 4: In the wee hours of today, the alert staff of Excise Department at Toll Post, Lakhanpur in separate incidents chased and intercepted two vehicles transporting consignments of polythene bags and cement illegally The two vehicles bearing Registration Numbers HP 73-0329 and JK08E-9228 had entered the state through an illegal route across the Ravi river and were heading towards the National Highway towards Jammu. The Excise and Taxation team chased down the vehicles and intercepted them at Londi Morh, Kathua. After physical checking of the vehicles, the former was found laden with polythene bags weighing 3600 kgs, banned for import into the state and the latter was found carrying 80 bags of cement. The seized polythene was handed over to the Anti-Polythene Checkpost, Lakhanpur for further disposal under relevant legal provisions. Rs 49,060 comprising of Toll and penalty was recovered from the other Cement laden Vehicle. It is worth mentioning that Toll Post has been in hot pursuit of cement smugglers operating in the border areas and in the past few days penalty of Rs 24,310 has also been recovered from Vehicle bearing number JK08Q-1641 seized at Chibbechak area of Kathua. The entire operation was supervised by Ashish Kumar Gupta, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post, Lakhanpur. Talat Parvez Rohella, Excise Commissioner, J&K Government while appreciating the prompt action of the Excise staffers has also directed the Toll Post to continue its special drive to thwart the nefarious designs of these smugglers. |
