Cooperative Society misuses farmers' funds
Office bearers enjoy luxury vehicle purchased for commercial purpose
3/4/2019 11:07:15 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 4: A Cooperative Marketing Society in district Kathua has been misusing the funds meant for farmers' welfare on extending undue facilities for the office bearers. In a glaring misappropriation, a luxurious "Innova Crysta" was purchased purportedly for commercial purpose but is being put to personal use by officer bearers.
According to sources a renowned advocate of Kathua had lodged a written complaint with Advisor to Governor KA Ganai in December 2018 alleging that Chairman along with other members of the Board of Directors of the Cooperative Society had purchased an "Innova Crysta", costing Rs. 22 Lakhs.
"This luxurious car was purportedly purchased for commercial purposes but so far has been utilized by the Chairman for his personal use", the complaint read, alleging further that even the shops of the Cooperative Society had been allotted to blue-eyed persons, without any open tendering. "Usually the allotment cost of a shop is nearly Rs. 32 lakhs but the BOD allocated same for Rs. 22 Lakhs to their blue eyed by bribing higher officials.
"In this way, the Society incurred losses of Rs. 10 Lakhs but officials pocketed huge money through corrupt practices", the complaint said, adding that the Society is an Agriculture Society meant for furtherance of Agriculture and allied services but how an Innova Crysta vehicle could be used for Agriculture purposes, it was a million dollar question.
The complaint further alleged that even some higher officials of the Cooperative Department were hand in glove with the Chairman as well as Board of Directors, who have been ruining the society, which was in profit. "If such illegal activities were not stopped, very soon the society will start incurring huge losses", he said, adding that it was very unfortunate that after lapse of over three months, no action has been taken by Advisor to Governor.
He further said that a Deputy Director level officer had also conducted an enquiry into the matter and a copy was sought by him but same was denied to him. "All this is being possible with active connivance of higher officials and Governor office must order thorough enquiry to save the Cooperative movement", he said.
