Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 4: Keeping in view the security of border dwellers and continuing shelling from Pakistan along International border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC), the Ministry of Home Affairs sanctioned thousands of bunkers for the distressed people but the state government has failed to complete the job even as the deadline is scheduled to end after three months.
As per the documents available with Early Times reveals that in December, 2017, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had sanctioned nearly 14460 bunkers including 1431 Large Community Bunkers and 13029 Individual bunkers along both International Border and Line of Control in five border districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Poonch and Rajouri and allocated worth Rs 415.73 Crores for the completion of projects.
"But unfortunately, the state government has failed to complete the project with only three months to meet the deadline as per set by MHA on June, 2019", said sources.
Sources further said that in this regard, the state government floated tenders for the construction of concrete bunkers and tenders allotted to many executing agencies including RDD but all of them fails to complete the bunkers, adding that however the state government has partially succeeded in construction of bunkers both Large Community bunkers and Individuals along the three borders districts i,e in Jammu, Samba and Kathua but literally failed to construct along LoC districts (Poonch & Rajouri).
"In the districts of Poonch and Rajouri, the state government just floating tenders both large community and individual bunkers despite few days back the union government 400 additional bunkers for Poonch and Rajouri district", said sources.
In Jammu district, government has succeeded to complete only 300 individual and 50 large community bunkers so far while more than 600 hundred Individuals and Large Community bunkers works are still underway. In Kathua 10 large community and 250 individuals bunkers are completed while in Samba district 315 and 4 Large Community Bunkers are completed while 200 individual bunkers' works are underway, said sources.
It is pertinent to mention here that in 2015, the MHA had approved a pilot projects for construction of 60 bunkers at the cost of five lakh each along the international border for safeguards of the civilians during cross border firing but the pilot project is still in oblivion.
