Jammu, Mar 19: In a much publicized Janipur Militant Attack case, Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Vinod Chatterji Koul today awarded 10 years imprisonment and fine Rs 20,000 to Zaffer IqbaL alias Umar alias Abdul Rehman S/O Mohd Yousaf R/O Trarkhal, Tehsil and District Palendri, PoK. According to the police case, on 11.08.2007 a team of Delhi Police and Special Branch of J&K police cordoned the house of one Abdul Rehman S/o Mohd Asgar at Ramzanpura, Janipur Jammu in order to effect arrest of a militant namely Saifullah Kari, who was involved in FIR No: 122/2005 of Police Station Special Cell, Delhi. However the militant, who was accompanied by another militant, while opening fire from an automatic weapon from inside the house attempted to flee from back side of the house. The police party returned the fire, in which militant Saifullah Kari died on spot and the other accused sustained injuries. SI Davinder Sharma of Delhi police also sustained injuries due to firing by the militants. The incident led to registration of offences under sections 7/25 A.Act, 121-A, 120-B and 307 RPC and 4/5 E.S.Act, as FIR No: 103/2007 with Police Station Janipur. Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Vinod Chatterji Koul after hearing Public Prosecutor Rakesh Badyal for sentenced the accused to undergo imprisonment for a period of 10(Ten) years and observed that he shall also be liable to pay a fine of Rs. 20,000for offence under section 307 RPC . |
