Funds for setting up 'Lead Centre' in GMC Jammu about to lapse | Lead Awareness and Toxicity Centre remains a distant dream | | Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 19: Owing to failure of the authorities to introduce new and advanced project in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu, the funds for establishing National Referral Centre for Lead Posing in the institute are about to lapse as the authority reportedly did not take the matter with the parent department for its approval. Pertinently, Jammu and Kashmir was the first to get Lead Awareness and Toxicity Referral Centre after getting approval from Indian Society for Lead Awareness and Research (InSLAR) last year. The state was assured help including financial assistance to set up the centre in GMC&H. Sources said the funds were sanctioned to save the public from hazardous effects of lead toxicity and poisoning in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. But the project remained a distant dream as no such efforts were made to provide the facility to the people of the Jammu. If sources are to be believed, the GMC&H Jammu has got Rs 5 lakhs to acquire machinery for conducting tests to check the level of Lead Posing in humans and further treatment. However, sources said the funds are about to lapse as the last date of purchasing is March 31, 2019 and so far no one has made required proposal to get approval from State Health and Medical Education Department. "Communications were made with concerned authority for taking up the issue but as usual no action has been taken to start the new project in the Jammu," sources stated, adding that it is a precious project and needy would be benefited so the management should take it seriously. |
