NABARD organises workshop for farmers | | | Early Times Report
Anantnag, June 3: Continuing to stress on aggregation of farmers to address their productivity and marketing issues, NABARD has envisaged more potential for formation producer's organization of farmers in Anantnag district under Govt of India's Producer Organizations Development Programme, implemented through NABARD. This was revealed in a district level sensitization workshop of district heads of agriculture and allied departments. The workshop was inaugurated by ADC Anantnag Parvez Sajad in presence of DDM NABARD Rouf Zargar. It was informed that NABARD has already sanctioned its first Farmers producers organization (FPO) of Mushqbudji rice farmers in Sagam area of Anantnag comprising of 100 farmers registered as members of FPO. Another FPO of 150 vegetable growing farmers was already proposed keeping in view the demand for vegetables in the district. ADC emphasized that FPOs are the only way to mitigate the various distress, income and marketing issues of farmers. He said that farmers need to reorganize themselves and shift to modern practices in farming through FPO channel. He advised the departments to identify a crop based activity to explore the possibility of more FPOs in the district. DDM NABARD informed that Producer Organisations could be formed in Farm as well as well as Off farm sector and are registered entities under Companies act or cooperatives act. NABARD provides the grant support to organizations promoting FPOs and also the loan assistance to FPOs directly. |
