Rajnath visits Kashmir, asks forces to make pilgrimage incident-free, peaceful | Namo 2.0 prioritizes Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra arrangements | | Early Times Report srinagar, May 3: Showing the priority of the Modi government towards making conduct of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra peaceful and incident free, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh started his field work by visiting Kashmir and picking up the issue with the Army. Soon after assuming office as the Defence Minister Rajnath prioritized visiting militancy-hit Kashmir as the annual pilgrimage to the cave shrine is scheduled to commence in the coming weeks. Sources said during a meeting held here at the Badamibagh Cantt, the Defence Minister told the Army to work in coordination with the other forces including state police to "ensure that the Yatra is incident free and concludes peacefully." Sources said Rajnath who is experienced hand on Kashmir for having previously been the Home Minister, told the Army that it was responsibility of the Modi Government to ensure that "every pilgrim is safe and returns home safely." He asked the Army to improve coordination with the state government so that any possible threat to the Yatra is overcome. Sources said the during the meeting that was also attended by the Army Chief and the GOC, Rajnath said that as of now the focus should be on tightening the security grid to ensure safety of pilgrims. Sources said additional forces would be deployed this year along the twin tracks of the Yartra and that Army would put in place its specialized surveillance devices including drones to keep vigil on the mountainous track in south Kashmir that is a hotbed of militancy. He said the biggest challenge for the security forces was to keep Yatra safe and that lapse of any sort would not be tolerated on the part of any of the agencies concerned with the conduct of the Yatra.
