Kathua hospital sans facilities, people suffer | | | Harpreet Singh Sethi Early Times Report KATHUA, June 6: Even as the state government frequently claims that it is committed to provide all basic facilities to every health institution in J&K, the District Hospital (DH) Kathua by and large presents a different picture as it even lacks elementary services required by thousands of patients visiting here on daily basis. Though the District Hospital, Kathua sans the basic health facilities but the authorities continuously ignore it plunging the locals as well as those who come from adjoining area into plethora of miseries. Sources informed Early Times that the hospital needs urgent attention of the authorities as this institution has failed to cater to the basic needs of the patients adding the gravity of the problem could be gauged from the fact that the facilities like Lift, Digital X-ray Machine and CT Scan are lying defunct for the last so many months but the administration is least bothered to deal with the situation. "The Digital X-ray Machine facility in the district hospital is lying defunct and unused for nearly a year but its repair is yet to be taken up while the elevator is also not in use since the inauguration of Hospital by the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The CT Scan machine installed in the hospital after incurring crores of rupees is also unused for nearly two months as there is no specialized doctor deputed who can prepare a report," said sources. Sources said that the Digital X Ray machine was inaugurated with much fanfare by Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office Dr Jitendra Singh and former MLA Kathua Rajiv Jasrotia in 2016. "Ironically, the inauguration plaque is quite visible outside the Digital Room but inside the Digital X-ray machine is non-functional due to some technical snag. Hospital Management is working with the old X-ray Machine," said sources. According to sources, the condition of Out-Patients Department (OPD) is also pathetic as only three to four doctors perform duty in OPD which is inadequate to cope up with the patient rush as the number of patients is increasing day by day. |
