Live electric cables passing over residential houses endanger lives; PDD unmoved

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 20: The apathy of the Power Development Department Jammu Division-II Gandhinagar has posed serious threat to the lives of people which can be seen from the fact that live electric cables passing over residential houses have not been removed despite repeated complaints to the concerned officials.
As per reports, the Ward No. 5 of Panchayat Hakkal has been facing threat of hanging PDD live wires which pass through a residential house but PDD seems totally unmoved.
"We requested the concerned Junior Engineer MP Singh for realignment the cables which have become threat to them but he did not help. Later we moved an application about the same problem with the office of AEE PDD Department at Gangayal but instead of its redressal they harassed us to move from pillar to post. We were asked to get the application marked from the JE but as expected he out rightly refused to sign on it and threw it in the face of applicant saying that he can't take responsibility of their matter," said Karan Singh, the complainant, who is the resident of Shiv Mohalla, Hakaal. He further said that instead of taking prompt action, the department particularly the JE MP Singh has shown total unprofessional approach, insensitivity, apathy to their problems. Not only this, the seniors are also least bothered to take cognizance of the matter, he added. The Executive Engineer PDD Jammu-II was also informed about the issue many a times and a written complaint along with photographs of the spot were also sent on this whatsapp number and he assured to resolve the issue immediately but it has been more than a month no action was taken.
"When XEn was contacted, he said that the concerned JE has informed him of some issue in this case but shockingly, the officer didn't bother to cross examine the facts put forth by the JE by visiting himself or sending some other officer to take firsthand account of the matter," he alleged further adding that the XEn was again contacted who asked the AEE to take up the matter but similarly, the officer took the information of the matter and did nothing.
It is pertinent to mention that last year some incidents of breaking down of live electric cables, which were passing over a house were reported resulting many livestock were killed due to electric shock in the Hakkal Panchayat and the case was reported with the police and PDD. Accordingly a drive was conducted to realign all the electric poles in the areas passing over any residence but it was done half heartedly and left many places.
