Chadoora residents hail CMO for shifting clerical staff | | | Early Times Report
BUDGAM, June 21: Chadoora residents have extended their gratitude to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Budgam for reshuffling some clerical staff as they were found to be involved in corrupt practices during last many years. The officials had been fleecing not only poor patients but the employees of Health department as well. Details reveal that some officials in the local Block Medical Office have been involved in lot of bungling from last several years. The officials, according to reliable sources, had been minting money from doctors and paramedical staff. The officials are said to be demanding hefty amount from staff in lieu of annual tax deduction and other things. Some doctors and pharmacists told Early Times that they were asked to pay Rs 10,000 to 30,000 for settling tax claims through illegal ways. In addition, the staff members were asked to pay bribe for sanctioning of leaves as well. The matter after coming into notice of authorities was viewed very seriously and CMO transferred few junior assistants from SDH Chadoora to some other location. The action has been hailed by local residents of Chadoora. The Medical Block Chadoora has been in news in past also when the BMO was directed to relieve a tainted Laboratory Technician of Primary Health Center (PHC) Surasyar who was found to be minting money inside the hospital premises by acting as an agent of a private lab during office hours. Early Times had filed a detailed report on the issue. Poor and disadvantaged people in remote areas continue to suffer at the hands of employees posted in Government hospitals. The lab technician as reported was working with Health Department had been looting poor patients especially those belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. |
