Jammu, Ladakh deserve special attention | PM Modi needs to revisit his J&K policy | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 21: Elections have been held. Results have been declared. Narendra Modi has taken oath of office as PM for the second time in a row. Ministry has been formed. Portfolios have been distributed. Everything is in place. It's now time to act; it's now time for PM Narendra Modi to revisit his J&K policy and devise an implement a policy that pays special attention to the suppressed aspirations of the people of Jammu and Ladakh. It has become imperative given the fact that the New Delhi's appeasement policy and special treatment to Kashmir on the ground that it houses a particular brand of population has not yielded any positive result and given the fact that the over-feeding has only created more problems for the nation in Kashmir than resolving the existing ones. The Narendra Modi Government not just needs to crush the menace of terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir but also to consider Jammu and Ladakh two important factors in the state's political situation. Terrorist organizations operating from Pakistani soil and in the Kashmir Valley, with the support of the Pakistani political and military establishments, are continuing to bleed India and cause serious troubles in the Kashmir Valley. Kashmir has been witnessing spurt in local radicalization with many younger Kashmiri Muslims, induced by radical ideology, have taken to violence in ever increasing numbers. The authorities will have to maintain a strong security vigil. It's a matter of great satisfaction that the armed forces are doing exceedingly well in the Valley. They need to be given a free hand as the situation in Kashmir, especially in South Kashmir, has been quite volatile since months now. At the same time, the Narendra Modi Government needs to seriously address the issues facing the people of Jammu and Ladakh without, of course, hurting the people of Kashmir. The people of Kashmir must get what they deserve. But the people of Jammu and Ladakh, who have suffered for 71 long years at the hands of the successive Kashmiri-dominated and Kashmiri-controlled successive governments in the state, cannot be treated the way they were treated till date. They need dispensations which are of them, for them and by them. Their age-old demand seeking reorganization of the state on regional basis needs to be appreciated. It needs to be appreciated all the more because the aspirations of the people of these two regions are different from those of the people of Kashmir. Reorganization will produce three good results. It will strengthen the nationalist constituency; it will limit the area of communal strife to the small Valley; and it will help New Delhi tackle the menace of terrorism and secessionism in a more effective way. The situation as it exists today in the state warrants its reorganization and the sooner it is done, the better. |
