BJP, Cong MLAs ignored Nanak Nagar Sec-8 : Residents tell Munish Gupta | 'Power woes, insanitation, dilapidated roads are major issues' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 1: Lambasting former MLAs of Congress and Bhartiya Janta for what they called "betraying the trust" of the people of Jammu, the residents of Nanak Nagar Sec-8 alleged that the area has degraded in terms of civic facilities during the past one decade. "Former MLAs don't deserve next chance, their performance has remained very poor and could not rise to the expectations of the people of Gandhi Nagar constituency. We are fed up with them," residents told Editor Early Times Munish Gupta during his mass contact programme as he would be contesting upcoming assembly elections as an independent candidates from Gandhi Nagar constituency. Power woes have appeared to be a major problem being faced by the people of this area. "There are long power cuts in the area during day and night. Last night there was five hours long power cut due to which we could not sleep properly. It has become come scenario of the area. The distribution transformer installed is of low capacity which doesn't take load of the area, we have requested the PDD to install separate transformer for our area so that proper power may be supplied to the houses. We receive high electricity bills every month despite that we are not getting electricity in this peak summer season. The insulated cables which have been replaced with the old one are not working properly as they get short circuited. There is huge power fluctuation. We were told that all their power problems will be solved with laying down the insulated wire but it proved mere hoax. A separate transformer has been sanctioned for the area to get rid of power fluctuation but till date it has not been installed," said Suresh Chander, Tejinder Singh, Dharam Pal, Tarsem Kumar Gupta, Honey, Sunil Gupta and Taranveer Singh of Nagar Nagar Sec-8. "The roads are in total shamble, which have not repaired for the last 10 years. The local corporator and MLA never visited the area to take stock of the problems. The drains are blocked nobody comes to clean them due to which sanitation has remained prime issue. There is no dustbin installed in the area resulting people dump garbage in lanes. It feels that we are living in a village as drains are broken and the water seeps into our houses. Rainy season is a nightmare for us as water in drains overflows and enter in our houses," said Madan Gupta, Harvinder, Simmi Gutpa, Geeta Sharma, Varinder Singh, Suresh Kumar, Jatinder Singh, Lovepreet Kour and Sangeeta Kohli. PHE water supply doesn't come properly, streets are not tiled. The roads are broken for last many years, Rohit, Bodh Raj, Ram Kumar, Sandhya Verma, Sheela Devi, Raju Gupta, Veena Slathia, Jaswant Singh, Shavi Sharma, Ravinder Kour, Krishna Gupta. Lakhvinder Kour alleged that there is a main Nallaha, which passes besides my house, stinks very much. Surinder Kour, an another elderly woman said that there is no bread earner in our family and one of his sons is handicapped and without job but nobody come forward to help her to get Old Age Pension. Ayodhya Devi also expressed resentment against the Government for not taking care of the poor aged people. "The facility of Old Age Pension scheme has not been given to me. We requested the MLA and corporator to help them to get pension facility but despite empty assurances nothing has been done till date," she alleged. Similarly, Baldev Singh, Jasbir Kour have been facing apathy of administration for not providing them pension benefits. Balvinder Singh, who got partially blind nearly five years ago due to some disease, has two daughters. Due to his blindness, he is unable to work to earn livelihood for his family. "His daughters are now come of age and are marriageable but due to no financial help, the future of his family seems to be in dark. He is living in dilapidated house and is forced to live in inhuman conditions," said neighbourers. |
