The death toll continued to mount in a minibus accident in Keshwan area of Kishtwar district on Monday with over three dozen people dead. The mishap occurred when the driver lost control over bus (JK17-6787) and plunged into deep gorge on the bank of Chenab river. The ill fated bus was overloaded and met with the accident at around 8 AM when it was on the way to Kishtwar from Keshwan. Earlier on June 27, at least eleven persons, including nine girls, died in a major road accident in Peer Ki Gali area on the historic Mughal road in south Kashmir's Shopian district. A tempo traveller on way to Shopian from Poonch skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Lal Ghulam area, resulting into death of eleven passengers. As per one of the survivors the driver of the ill fated bus was driving recklessly. "The poor driving sense of commercial vehicle drivers is a cause of concern," said a concerned Jammuite. Meanwhile the people of Jammu have appealed Governor SP Malik to personally look into the matter and initiate strict action against those found guilty. |
