Early Times Report
Jammu, July 30: The road connecting Ashok Nagar to Satwari has a number of potholes and awaits repairs for more than a decade. The residents Lal Chand, Sandeep Kumar, Raju Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Harbans Lal, Ranjeet Singh, Jeet Ram, Ashok Kumar and Vijay Kumar informed Early Times that for the last over five years, the condition of road continues to get deteriorated. "Amidst potholes, the traces of a road are visible only at a few places. We have on our own filled the potholes by putting some material into them but the potholes redevelop after only few days", the locals said. The embankments of the canal, passing from the area, have been damaged at several locations due to which whenever the water level increases, it overflows on the road. "The authorities have not de-silted the canal completely for the last many decades, due to which its retaining capacity has decreased", the locals said. The condition around the road is pathetic with garbage littered everywhere, emanating foul smell. "Even the sweepers dump the garbage either in the canal or on its bank, which ultimately made its way into canal. For the last many days the garbage has not been lifted by the authorities due to reasons best known to them, making it impossible to visit the temple", the priest of the temple rued. The locals further castigated the authorities and the former legislators of the area for ignoring their area. "Though the legislator visited the area and assured to take necessary action but his assurances proved totally hoax", the locals said, adding that the so called cleanliness drive "Swatch Bharat Mission", has seemingly totally defeated in the area. |
