BJP Kashmir leaders unhappy with plan to revoke Article 35 A | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 30: In a major setback to the Bharatiya Janta Party's plan to revoke Article 35-A, some of the BJP leaders form Kashmir are unhappy with the developments. Sources said that some of the BJP leaders from Kashmir have conveyed it to their leadership in New Delhi that revocation of the law would be against the interests of the people of the state in general. Sources said the some of the leaders have made it clear in writing before New Delhi that "at a time when Kashmir needs peace and development" the ruling party was "pushing the entire state including Jammu to undue trouble." Sources said most of the BJP leaders from Kashmir are of the opinion that revoking the laws that are seen as extension of the laws established by Maharaja Hari Singh in 1927 were against the larger interests of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. "When Maharaja Ji wanted us to enjoy special status why should the same be removed. And it's not only about Kashmir but the Dogra community as well," said a party leader on the condition of anonymity. Sources said hint in this regard was also given to senior BJP leader Ram Madhav during his visit to Kashmir recently. It was reliably learnt that the leaders from Kashmir are in contact with the colleagues from Jammu in this regard. It is pertinent to mention that security has been heightened in the state in the wake of inputs that New Delhi was planning to abrogate Article 35 A that ensures exclusive state subject rights for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. As per the legal experts if the law is revoked non-state subjects can not only buy land in the state but will also be eligible for various government jobs. The BJP leaders from Kashmir seem to be uncomfortable with the plans. Despite repeated attempts the BJP leaders in Kashmir were not available for comments. |
