Kashmir-centric parties inventing new ways to stay relevant | More to it what meets the eye! | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 30: The Kashmir-centric political parties have invented a unique way to stay relevant and that is Article 35-A. These groups have begun telling people that only they are capable enough to safeguard the special identity. After PDP and National Conference, other political groups in Kashmir in a bid to stay relevant and save themselves from plunging into oblivion seem have to been readying themselves to make a united conglomerate over for 35-A. Now, People's Conference led by Sajad Lone has expressed wish to join the new force of the mainstream political parties. The party founded former IAS officer Shah Faesal-Peoples Movement-too has made a public statement, saying that unity looks the need of the hour. People's Conference on Tuesday made an appeal to all those parties who believe in the defence of these special provisions to refrain from making attacks against each other at least for the duration when present political conditions are mired in suspense. "Politics gives us enough opportunities to attack each other and there is enough ammunition with all of us to use against each other. There is no approaching expiry date for any such ammunition that we might have against each other. We have come across a few statements from our rival parties targeting leadership of People's Conference. "While the temptation of getting back is always very high, we restrained ourselves and refrained from going into war of words at this crucial juncture. These are rather tumultuous times and we have directed all leaders to refrain from sniping at each other. PC will contribute to any sincere collective effort aimed at unifying and amplifying the voices raised in defence of the special status of J&K," reads the handout. The idea of unity among the mainstream parties was floated first by the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti. On Twitter, Mehbooba on Monday called out National Conference's Farooq Abdullah in particular to organise an all-party meeting. "In light of recent developments that have caused a sense of panic amongst people in J&K, I have requested Dr Farooq Abdullah Sahab to convene an all-party meeting," she wrote. "Need of the hour is to come together and forge a united response. We the people of Kashmir need to stand up as one." Earlier on Monday, former CM of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah spoke against the removal of Article 35A and Article 370 from the state, claiming that 'they are Hindustani' but the Articles are important for them. He further added that the Centre is creating 'a situation of fear' moreover threatened saying 'wait and watch the consequences.' He said, "They are creating a situation of fear. If they abrogate 35 A, they will have to abrogate every Article that has come by the President. We will have to go back to 1947. Abrogating the Article is against the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir. You watch and see the consequences, wait and see what will happen." Mufti even threatened violence over Article 35A on Sunday, speaking at a public meeting on the occasion of PDP's foundation day at Srinagar, Mufti lashed out at NIA, criticised Centre's anti-terror operations and declared that bodies of those will be burned who will meddle with the status of Article 35-A in the Valley. |
