Samba, July 31: A local court on Wednesday awarded life-imprisonment to one Rajinder Singh in the much publicized Samba triple murder case of 2010 while three co-accused were acquitted. According to the police case, the events leading to the ghastly murders of Arjun Singh, Parladh Singh and Gian Singh on the fateful day (May 10, 2010) had their genesis in the poultry farm run by Arjun Singh and Parladh Singh at village Shama Chak, Ramgarh in Samba. Arjun Singh and Parladh Singh were two brothers and nephews of Gian Singh. The aforesaid poultry farm was alleged to be a cause of nuisance for the accused party who lived nearby the farm. On the basis of this animosity, on 10.05.2010, at about 7.45 am, Rajinder Singh, armed with a single barrel 12 bore gun, trespassed into the poultry farm and with an intention to kill Arjun Singh and Parladh Singh fired upon Arjun who ran towards fields and fell down. Thereafter, Rajinder fired upon Parladh who too fell down. Both the injured were shifted to Ramgarh hospital in a load carrier. In the meanwhile, Gian Singh intercepted Rajinder Singh. Thereafter, Sunita Devi exhorted Rajinder to kill Gian Singh and on this Rajinder fired upon Gian Singh also who too fell on ground, and all the accused fled away. Gian Singh was also shifted to Ramgarh hospital on a motorcycle. Principal Sessions Judge Samba MK Sharma, after hearing Special Public Prosecutor SS Sambyal for the State, observed that "in my view that it is not an exceptional case in which instead of life imprisonment, death sentence could be awarded. Though three innocent persons have lost life in the instant case it does not fall in the category of rarest of rare cases where the death sentence is warranted." "The convict is therefore sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life," the court ruled. |
