Drug menace still thriving in J&K, police in slumber | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 3: Despite the curbs by Government the drug menace is thriving in the State at the cost of it's youth. The menace has not only taken the toll of youth in their prime age but also perished many families in all the two regions of the State i . e Jammu and Kashmir Valley. The parents of youth are perturbed who fall a pretty to drug menace and spoil their lives. Their all efforts failed to yield results in bringing out their children from the clutches of drug addiction. Sources said drug menace has become alarming in the State soon after the new Congress government tightened it's noose on drig mafia in Punjab who were given a long rope by previous Akali_ BJP coalition.SpOn run from Punjab facing threat of police drug mafia spread it's tentacles in neighboring Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and put the drugs on sale through their agents who mostly travel in the State from Punjab through road or train and after handing over consignment to their agents return to Punjab later. These agents later sell the drugs in shape of heroin, Bukki, intoxicating capsules etc among youth who have by and by fallen a prey to it. Sources said from Samba the mafia has also reached Jammu where they supply the drugs to the agents. In Jammu the smugglers from Rajouri Poonch belt are also active who purchase the drugs from cross border smugglers, sources added. Sources said large number of youth in twin districts of Rajouri _Poonch have also fallen a prey to it and police though trying it's lot has failed to contain the same. Sources said youth in Kashmir have also fallen a pray to drug menace where the same is smuggled by cross border smugglers. Moreover Chharas which is grown in a huge quantity in Valley is also being supplied by drug mafia in Kashmir and it is also being smuggled out of Valley. The drug menace has taken such an alarming turn in the State particularly Kashmir that the leaders of some political parties have openly appealed people to restrain their children from falling in it's trap. Some social organisations both in Kashmir and Jammu region have come forward to launch a State wide campaign against the menace which has eaten up the vitals of society and ruined the families. These organisations have asked Governor Satya Pal Malik to take drastic steps to check the menace in the State. |
