BAT action foiled at Keran sector, 7 militants killed: Army | 'No attempt to disrupt peace in last 36 hours' | | S Tahir-ul Haq

KUPWARA, Aug 3: At least seven militants were killed when Army foiled a BAT action in Keran sector of Kupwara district of north Kashmir, said army statement. A top army official in a statement said that, in the last 36 hours no attempt to disrupt the peace and to target the Amarnath Yatra was made in Kashmir, however, a Border Action Team (BAT) attempt was made on one of the forward posts in Keran sector and foiled by alert troops resulting in the killing of five to seven regulars/militants. He said that security forces will continue to respond to all nefarious activities along the LoC and the hinterland, an army official in a statement told early times. The army statement also said that, in the valley four hardcore Jem terrorists were neutralized, while as they recovered cache of sniper rifle, IED and mine with Pak markings. It clearly indicates complicity of Pak in terror activities, security forces will continue to respond to all nefarious activities along LC and hinterland, the statement said. Meanwhile there are reports that a 40 year old died this afternoon after an unexploded shell went off in the air within the woods near Sadhna Top in north Kashmir's Kupwara district causing immense tense among the common citizens who are already terrified due to recent heavy cross border shelling. Reports quoting the official as having said that, a 40 year old identified as Shabir Ahmad Pathan son of Ab Qayoom, died on spot after an unexploded shell went off the air near Sadhna Top when he was on way to their make shit house high up in the hills. The official said that the shell apparently seems to have been fired from other side of the border in recent days and may have missed the target, said reports. I have received initial communication about death of a youth there due to some shell; we are verifying the more details about the incident those will be shared later, said reports. |
