Kathua, Aug 31: District Administration has decided to tap potential of artesian wells to meet shortage in the areas facing water scarcity, especially the areas downside the National Highway. In Hiranagar, Haripur Sania and Handa Chak area, there are few artesian wells but the potential of these wells has not been utilized fully, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Raghav Langer informed after conducting a tour of these areas along with the Executive Engineer, PHE. The DC directed the Executive Engineer, PHE, Surjit Singh to tap this source of water for solving water woes of the habitants residing near these wells. It was informed that artesian well doesn't require a pump to pull water and it is usually free of organic contaminants, making it desirable for drinking. Executive Engineer, PHE informed that PHE department is formulating a scheme to utilize the water from the artesian wells for drinking purposes. He said the scheme will benefit habitants residing near these artesian wells especially of Handa Chak and Haripur Sania. He informed that though Hiranagar area is water resilient and the water from the wells will be supplied to nearby habitations like Jandi, Haripur Sania, Sultanpur Dhalli, Handa Chak, Mehrajpur, Chak Sardar Atar Singh and Karyara. |
