Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 31: After remaining closed for three consecutive Sundays, the famous Saturday market was partially open by some people in the Srinagar city for the business establishment. The market which runs across the Lal Chowk on every Saturday is known for selling all the essentials items from tiny to big house hold things. On 31st August, few stalls were opened by the people across the city and were selling items like trousers, shoes, ladies suit, track suit and kitchen items. However, most of the stalls still remained off the path. The government is trying to bring the normalcy back to the track and is convincing business establishment owners to run their shops and earn livelihood after the Centre abrogated Article 370, which used provide special status for the residents of Jammu and Kashmir including separate flag. I wanted to work, I used to earn livelihood by selling kitchen items every Sunday with my son, but I have not been able to come here from last three Saturdays. I first monitored the situation, than I thought I should come here and earn little money to run my household, said a stall owner at Saturday market. He added, "I have no other way of earning. I pray those situations gets normal back as soon as possible so that people like who work every morning and earn in the evening are able to feed their family". There is calm situation in my area, I was able to come here and buy track suit for my husband, but unfortunately I could not find same for my son. I used to come here and buy items which are very cheap as compared to big markets, said a women customer. She added, "I think that as soon as the situation normalize in the Srinagar city, more and more stalls will open and so will come customers". |
