Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 1: The security forces have gunned down one more militant in an ongoing encounter in Trunkhal Ganderbal district, taking the toll to two, army said.
On Tuesday the militant was killed in an encounter that has going on from past four days. The ongoing joint operation is being carried out by the security forces at Gangbal area of Kangan in Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, an area close to Gurez-Bandipora ridge, a traditional infiltration pass.
Among the killed militants, one was neutralised on September 28, the day the operation began, the officials said. Security forces have recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from the encounter. However, the identification of two militants killed in the encounter is yet to be ascertained.
Earlier in the day while informing about the killing of the terrorist, the Northern Command, Indian Army had tweeted, "Indian Army Op Trunkhal (Ganderbal). The second terrorist killed; weapon and warlike stores recovered. Total of Two terrorists eliminated. Joint operation is in progress."
The encounter had begun on September 28 and a militant was killed on the same day and operation was continued by the army and Jammu and Kashmir police. The encounter had come the day after the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran at United Nation had warned of bloodbath in Kashmir.
The encounter also comes at a time when multiple intelligence agencies had warned the government that at least 60 militants have infiltrated into Jammu and Kashmir in the last few weeks alone and another 500 were waiting to sneak in.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is the third encounter that is going in at Ganderbal district, after the Centre abrogated Article 370, which used to provide special status to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir including separate flag and constitution.
Earlier, a militant and Special Police Officer (SPO) was killed in an encounter that took place in Baramulla. SPO was identified as Billal Ahmad. While on this month, a Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist involved in an attack on a fruit merchant's home in Sopore was gunned down by security forces in the Jammu and Kashmir town. The militant was identified as LeT's Asif Maqbool Bhatt and was killed in a brief encounter in Sopore in the valley's Baramulla district.
