Jammu, Oct 1: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Poonch- Rajouri Range Vivek Gupta who has been given additional charge as of Jammu, Samba, Kathua range, said that the police force is always on alert and prepared to avert any terror strike in the province.
While talking to Early Times correspondent in an exclusive interview, the DIG Gupta said that State is on path of peace and police will not allow terrorists to sabotage peace in the Jammu region.
"The situation in the region is totally normal after abrogation of Article 370 on Aug 5 as all necessary steps have been taken by the police to maintain law and order," he said.
On being asked about the internet restoration in the region particularly in Jammu district, the DIG said that the security agencies are assessing the situation and no decision has been taken till date and it might take some time. He further appealed the people to remain alert against the rumour mongers. "Anybody found guilty of spreading rumours regarding misinformation about Article 370 will be dealt with strong hand.
We need support and cooperation from general public to identify such elements, who are hell bent to vitiate atmosphere by spreading rumours in connection with Kashmir and Article 370," DIG Gupta said further adding that if any suspicious person or activity is observed by the general public, immediately contact and inform the concerned police station in this regard so that any untoward incident could be averted.
Expressing the problem being faced by the business community and students particularly in absence of internet service which has become part and parcel of their life, DIG Vivek Gupta said that he knew about the problems being confronted by them but maintaining law and order and peace in the region is main priority and in this connection they need help of the people
