Politicians detained at Centaur Hotel to seek heating arrangements for winters | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 6: With the onset of autumn in Kashmir, the detained leaders at the palatial Centaur Hotel on the banks of Dal Lake are looking ahead to seek heating arrangements from the administration. Sources said the mainstream politicians detained at the hotel have resolved to seek heating arrangements for themselves, if their detention extends to November or beyond when the winter commences in Kashmir. While the detention on the banks of Dal Lake was soothing during summers when the area remains cool, the winters are even colder in the area. Sources said the families of the detained leaders and their political parties were also likely to make a formal appeal in this regard. Sources said the formal representation in this regard will be put forward in the next week as some of the detained leaders have already complained of feeling cold in the hotel. "This hotel is meant for tourists who come to Kashmir during summers but not for harsh winters so the government will have to take remedial measures to keep them warm," said family of one of the detainees. Sources said the local parties will write in the petition to the Jammu and Kashmir administration that some of the leaders are senior citizens and thus need proper living conditions lest they get sick. It is pertinent to mention that among those detained include senior politicians like Ali Mohammad Sagar and Nayeem Akhter who are in their late sixties. It is pertinent to mention that around two dozen leaders including youth faces like Salman Sagar, Tanvir Sadiq, Ashraf Mir and Waheed Parra are detained at th Centaur since the abrogation of the special status on August 5, 2019. The Centaur Hotel has been converted into subjail headed by a police official of the cadre of the Deputy Superintendent of Police. While the inmates are provided one Dal and vegetables alongside rice and chapattis as meals, the detainees have an option to buy non-vegetarian as well. Despite repeated attempts, the authorities couldn't be contacted for comments. |
