Jammu, Jan. 11: Dr. Owais Ahmad Transport Commissioner inaugurated the “6th Road Safety T20 Cricket Championship” on the occasion of 31st National Road Safety Week in the presence of Gurmukh Singh Joint Transport Commissioner, SSP R.K. Bhat, Dhananter Singh RTO Jammu, Ravi Raina Addl.Secy. Road Safety Council, Mohd. Amin Shah Under Secy. Raod Safety Council, Rajesh Gill Chief Prosecuting Officer/Former Ranji Player and Vijay Saberwal President Parade Sports Association at Parade Ground Jammu.
The slogan of the Championship is “Sadak Suraksha- Jeevan Raksha” and is being organized by Transport Department of UT of Jammu & Kashmir under the overall supervision of Transport Commissioner Dr. Owais Ahmad whereas SSP RK Bhat Addl.Secy. Road Safety Council & Rajesh Gill Former Ranji Player are the Coordinators of the Championship.
Dr. Owais Ahmad Transport Commissioner was the Chief Guest in the inauguration function, Sardar Gurmukh Singh Joint Transport Commissioner was the Guests of Honour and Dhananter Singh RTO Jammu was the Special Guest.
The Chief Guest while speaking on the occasion said that the main objective for conducting cricket tournament on the occasion of 31st National Road Safety Week by involving Youths, Girls and Small boys is to aware all youths of colleges and Schools about the traffic rules and regulations so that death rate in road accidents may decrease in the near future.
Later on The Chief Guest also distributed T-Shirts and Caps to the participating team- players and the children present on the occasion.
Earlier the welcome address and brief report of the Championship was presented by RK Bhatt, Vote of thanks proposed by Rajesh Gill Former Ranji Player whereas Justina Victor conducted the proceedings of the inauguration function.
In the opening match KC Sports Club defeated Media Eleven by 7 wickets. Batting first Media Eleven scored 66 runs for all wickets in 16.5 overs .Amar with 16 is the only batsman who scored in double figure. From bowling side Abhinav Khajuria took 4 wickets, Vicky Raina took 3 wickets while Sakib and Sahil took 1 wicket each . In reply KC Sports Club chased the target by losing 3 wickets thus won the match by 7 wickets .Vikas 35 and Sidarth 16 were the main batsman of KC Club. From bowling side Akshay, Nitin and Amar took 1 wicket each . Abhinav Khajuria was adjudged as Man of the match.
In the match of Girls , Jammu Queens Cricket Club defeated Jammu Angels Cricket Club 8 wickets
Batting first Angel CC scored 67 for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 12 overs. Sonika 25 runs and Fency 15 were the main scorer. From bowling side Phoolkumari, Puja,Rubia and Guddu took 1 wicket each. In reply Jammu Queens Cricket Club chased the target in 10.3 overs by losing 2 wickets thus won the match by 8 wickets. Rubia 46 and lalita 10 were the unbeaten batswomen of the Jammu Queen Club. From bowling side Shivangi took 2 wickets.
