Govt can’t shy away from providing basic amenities to people: Munish | Lackadaisical approach of authorities has disappointed us, say Gadigarh Rohi residents | | Rajesh Tandon Jammu, Mar 17: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, on Tuesday expressed concern over authorities not constructing a road and providing other basic amenities to the residents of Ward no. 73 Gadigarh Rohi. Munish, who would be contesting the forthcoming assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency, said, “Roads, drains, water and electricity are the basic amenities which the government has to provide to its people.” He said, “It’s unfortunate that administration is not paying attention towards the basic issues and requirements of people. No government can just turn a Nelson’s eye towards the sufferings of its people. Residents of Gadigarh Rohi deserve a better deal. They cannot be left at God’s mercy. Promises which were made to people need to be fulfilled. They have to be provided with the basic facilities and amenities.” Meanwhile, residents of Gadigarh Rohi while talking to Early Times said that “lackadaisical approach” of the administration has disappointed them. Suman Sharma said, “The 1.5 kilometre long Link Road connecting our area with Jammu-RS Pura highway is in shambles. This road stretch has remained in a dilapidated condition for the past many years. We have to walk through this entire stretch to reach the main road as transporters don’t want to run any service in this area due to this road being in a very bad shape.” Sanjay Pandit said that in absence of drain and proper streets in area, the locals are facing immense hardships.” Jammu being a smart city seems a distant dream. The condition of localities and the mohallas reflects the ground reality. Our children face lot of difficulties while going to schools, as the only road that connects out locality with the main road remains water logged”, he added. Shishupal said, “Retaining walls built decades ago have collapsed. We have taken up the matter with higher authorities time and again but no one is paying any heed over our plight. We have heard about many development schemes started by the government, not is single scheme or works is visible in our area.” Another resident Omparkash said, “We are residing here for past 40 years, in case of any emergency ambulance cannot reach here as road has not been built despite our repeated request. We find our self helpless and as nobody is listening to us.” Jaspal Singh said, “We collected Rs 2500 from people residing in our locality to level the road and spent it for leveling the road. The government has not even spent a single penny to build this road despite announcing slew of measures to put J&K on the path of development,” he added.
