Farooq forgets Art 370 talks about coronavirus threat | | | Early Times Report jammu, Mar 17: Call it an irony or anything else. NC president, Dr Farooq Abdullah, known for his rhetoric over Article 370 is these days urging people to follow health advisories to avoid COVID-19 and is maintaining silence over the special status of erstwhile J&K State. Dr Farooq who was released from custody last week, these days is holding meetings with his partymen in Srinagar. People were expecting him to the break his silence over the August 5 decision of the Central Government but he is surprisingly keeping his cards close to his chest. Farooq Abdullah on Monday asked people to follow health advisories following the unprecedented situation due to coronavirus threat. Scores of delegations from across Kashmir called on Abdullah at his residence to greet him on his release. The delegations comprising of workers, party functionaries, delegates and civil society groups had come from Shopian, Langate, Zadibal, Hazratbal, Pulwama, Charar-e-Sharief, Chadooora, Kokarnag, Baramulla, Anantnag, Shangus, Qazigund constituencies. However, he just maintained silence over the crucial issues. Many political pundits believe that NC has virtually surrendered its demand to seek Article 370 back. The party used to describe Article 370 as its soul. "Dr Farooq is audaciously striving to divert the public mood. When the government machinery is on tenterhooks to deal with the prevailing threat of novel coronavirus, NC president too has joined the chorus. There is absolutely more to it than what meets the eye," said, a senior journalist. Soon after Farooq's release when senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad met the NC president, he dodged the questions related to Article 370. Azad while talking to the media persons along with Dr Farooq pitched for the restoration of J&K's statehood and preferred not to raise any issue pertaining to the abrogation of 370 and whether the order issued on August 5, last year should be rolled back. Replying to the queries of reporters instead of restoration of the J&Ks special status, Farooq raised the issue of J&K's statehood. Azad underlined the need for the resumption of political activities and audaciously ducked the question about the August 5 declaration. The NC president watched with stoic silence while Azad preferred to remain silent on revocation of J&K's special status. Farooq remaining silent over abrogation of Article 370 is a hint that Kashmir centric parties have bitten the bullet. It appears that the NC president has decided to forget Article 370 and his party may toe the line of the Central Government over the issue. |
