Azad’s solo performance at Farooq’s residence triggers feud in Congress | Disgruntled leaders want High Command to intervene, seek explanation from former J&K CM | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 19: Serious feud has engulfed the Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir after the senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad met NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar. Most leaders within the Congress are feeling left out and are accusing Azad of putting up a solo performance. According to the Congress insiders Azad’s act has triggered a strong resentment within the party and it could lead to a possible rebellion. Sources told Early Times that the senior Congress leaders have informed the high command about the alleged “narcissist approach” of the Congress Member Parliament who stole the show even without informing his colleagues in Srinagar about his visit to the NC president. “The party was planning to do it as a team. We wanted to meet the NC President as a team, which would have comprised of few veteran Congress leaders. However, Azad decided to do it solo and avoided everyone. Such an action hasn’t gone well within the ranks,” said a Congress functionary. There are also reports making rounds that the Congress may seek explanation from Azad over why he didn’t inform his colleagues about his meeting with Farooq. “A team of Congress leaders meeting Farooq would have sent a positive message across the board,” the Congress functionary said. Pertinently, Azad while talking to the media persons along with Farooq Abdullah pitched for the restoration of J&K’s statehood but maintained silence over the abrogation of Article 370. This was for the first time since August 5, 2019 that Congress has sent feelers about it being comfortable with the scraping of J&K’s special status. While replying to the queries of reporters Azad skipped Article 370 and underlined the need for the resumption of political activities and audaciously ducked the question about the subtle acceptable of August 5 presidential order. Azad not talking about Article 370 has sent a message that the mainstream political parties in Kashmir have accepted the change in status-quo and are more keen on restoration of J&K’s statehood. |
