Expedite on-going desilting, cleanliness works of Ranbir canal: Sahu

JAMMU, MARCH 20: Commissioner Secretary, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, today directed the concerned authorities of Irrigation department to expedite the ongoing desilting and cleanliness works of Ranbir canal.

Commissioner Secretary made these remarks during inspection of the ongoing desilting and cleanliness work of the canal at various places including Digiana, Gangyal, Kunjwani, Bandhurakh, Jeevan Nagar, Dharp, Ismailpur and Seora.

He directed the concerned authorities that desilting works should be done at the canal beds and garbage retrieved from it should be properly dumped before releasing the water. He asked the concerned to ensure that the water reaches to the tail end of canal without any problem.

Commissioner Secretary directed the concerned authorities to impose fine on those people who are throwing garbage in the canal and activate the Monitoring Committee of local residents of Wards/Panchayats to look after and aware public about the importance of keeping it clean.

He stressed upon the concerned officers to engage more men and machinery to complete the work within stipulated time frame (5th April, 2020) so that water could be released after conducting thorough inspection of the desilting works in the canal.

Sahu also gave instructions to the concerned officials of Irrigation Department to take necessary steps to stop encroachment of banks of Ranbir canal and directed the Chief Engineer to take urgent action in consultation with the District Administration for immediate removal of encroachments of canal land. He also visited the Irrigation Lifting Plant Ismailpur and interacted with the employees and enquired about the working and facilities being put in place at the Lifting plant.

Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Ashok Kumar Sharma, besides other senior officers of the concerned department accompanied the Commissioner Secretary.
