Essential services badly hit in Kishtwar, even Duty Magistrates complain | Volunteers distribute medicines at door steps despite all odds | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 26: Despite guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs to exempt all those who are associated with essential services in the wake of countrywide lockdown announcement, the people associated with such vital components are still facing major hurdles in operating smoothly in district Kishtwar. Medical stores, Municipal staff, grocery shops, fruit shops, milk shops, PHE staff and members from print and electronic media are confronting several problems in the district since lockdown was forced as a result of which the operations of the essential services are getting affected adversely. However, following intervention of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, the situation was eased out to some extent yesterday. The medical shops and other essential services started working smoothly with the directions to follow the instructions and guidelines issued for all these services, but today the situation again was back to square one as CAPD officials claimed that they had been blocked and were not allowed to reach the ration stores. As per the details available with Early Times, after the implementation of lockdown in the entire district, the police and paramilitary forces took over the control of entire Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas. The security forces sealed all entry as well as exit points and started stopping everyone including Duty Magistrate. The people associated with essential services told the Early Times that they are facing lot of inconvenience as security personnel on duty did not listen to them and even refused to acknowledge the departmental identity cards. Few Duty Magistrates also told the Early Times that security forces even misbehaved with them adding that despite revealing their identities, they were threatened. The Duty Magistrates informed that the passes issued by the Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) are not being acknowledged. They further said that the passes issued by the ADMs were torn apart by the security personnel on duty. Even the media persons complained about the harsh behaviour faced by them from the security personnel while performing their official duties. Several employees also complained about the same and called up the administration to issue general order— ordering treating of Departmental Identity cards as passes so as to avoid rush of employees at DC office Kishtwar searching for the passes. After much hue and cry, the administration intervened and the situation was brought under control with essential services started picking up. Meanwhile, the group of local volunteers and social activists led by Tilak Raj Shan and Nisar Ahmed provided medicines to people at their door steps. Speaking to Early Times, social activist Randeep Bhandari said that as many as 50 patients were supplied with lifesaving drugs by his team. He said that they also faced hardships at initial stage, but later the things normalized. He said that they will continue to provide medicines to patients at their door steps during lockdown period and also called on other social activities to join hand in this need of hour to felicitate the smooth supply of essential services to the people at their homes. |
