COVID-19: GMC Anantnag, Health Department officials violate protocol | Suspect sent to home! | | SAAHIL SUHAIL Early Times Report
ANANTNAG, Mar 26: In a shocking incident, the Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag and Health Department authorities jointly violated the laid down protocol after they allegedly allowed a person, who had come in touch with COVID-19 positive patient, to return home while as the doctor who had treated suspect was been sent to quarantine. According to reports, after hectic efforts the surveillance team traced a person who had come in contact with COVID-19 positive patient during a religious practice. "The person who had came in contact with COVID-19 positive patient was traced and brought to Sub-District Hospital Bijbehara at around 4:00pm and then was shifted to Government Medical College Anantnag for testing however the at GMC Anantnag the team was conveyed that the flu laboratory established for taking samples of suspected cases has been closed," a health department official said. They said that the surveillance team along with the suspect returned back to Bijbehara and later on the directions of Chief Medical Officer Anantnag was shifted to Primary Health Center Veeri where he according to few staff members refused to stay. However, sources revealed to Early Times that the suspect was allowed by the Health Department officials to return home and wasn't sent to any quarantine center in established Anantnag. Chief Medical Officer Anantnag Mukhtar Ahmad also admitted that the suspect stayed at home last night. "We had sent him to Primary Health Center Veeri but he didn't stay there," he said. CMO Anantnag further said that the suspect has again handed over to Government Medical College Anantnag and was advised to go far testing and screening. "I don't know where he is now but today we had sent him Government Medical College Anantnag," he claimed. Medical Superintendent Government Medical College Anantnag, Dr Majid Mehrab, however, contradicted the claims of Chief Medical Officer and said that the suspect didn't report. "Today we have taken three samples but the one you are talking about didn't report at GMC today," he said. Dr Farhat Ahmad, COVID-19 Nodal Officer on being contacted told Early Times that they have quarantined thirteen persons who had come in contact with COVID-19 positive patient. "All of them have been sent to Kokernag," he informed. Meanwhile, at GMC Anantnag a group of students, who voluntarily disclosed their travel history, were not being guided. "We came here to disclose our travel agency but no one is here to guide us. We being told to stay at home and visit hospital only if we develop some symptoms," they alleged.
