SRINAGAR, Apr 17: The death toll due to Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached five today as one of the patients passed away at Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Medical College, Bemina. At the same time 14 fresh cases of COVID-19 came to the fore from the Kashmir valley of the union territory. With today's fresh cases the number of Corona Virus positive cases reached 314 in Jammu & Kashmir. As on date there are 281 active positive cases in the union territory. Reports said that a man in his 70s belonging to Sopore area in North Kashmir's Baramulla district passed away at SKIMS Medical College, Bemina in the morning. The man was admitted at the hospital couple of weeks back and his condition worsened following which he passed away. It has been learnt that this man was suffering from some other ailments. At the same time 14 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from two hospitals of Srinagar. While 11 cases were reported from SKIMS, Soura three other cases came to fore from Chest Diseases Hospital, Drugjan-Dalgate, Srinagar. The fresh cases were reported from Bandipora (nine cases), Shopian (three cases) and Kupwara (two cases). As five persons have died and 42 others have recovered the number of active positive cases of COVID-19 are 281 in Jammu & Kashmir. Kashmir has accounted for 260 COVID-19 positive cases and the same number in Jammu is 54. In the Kashmir valley all the districts are affected by Corona Virus and the case is not the same in Jammu division. The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 14 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (all from Kashmir division), have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 328. Out of 328 positive cases, 281 are active positive, 42 have recovered and five have died. "Furthermore, till date 59,205 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance which includes 7,631 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 281 in hospital isolation, 260 in hospital quarantine and 27,366 under home surveillance. Besides, 23662 persons have completed their surveillance period," the bulletin said. Moreover, four more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged today from CD Hospital Jammu and one COVID-19 patient died today at SKIMS, Bemina. The bulletin further said that out of 6,438 test results available, 6,110 samples have tested as negative till April 17, 2020. The bulletin said that Srinagar has 78 positive cases wherein 65 are active positive, 12 recovered and one has died, Bandipora 75 positive cases with 63 active positive, 11 recovered and one died, Baramulla 42 positive cases with 40 active positive, and two died; Kupwara has 27 positive cases and all are active cases and Shopian has 17 positive with 15 active positive, two recovered. "Ganderbal has 14 positive cases and all are active positive, Budgam 12 positive cases of which nine are active positive with three recovered cases; Kulgam has five cases and all are active positive; Pulwama three positive cases with two active positive, one recovered and Anantnag district has one positive case who is active positive," reads the bulletin. Similarly, Jammu has 26 positive cases of whom 22 are active positive and four have recovered, Udhampur 20 positive cases of which 14 are active positive, five recovered and one died, while as Rajouri had three positive cases and all have recovered; Samba district has four positive cases and all are active positive. Meanwhile, Kishtwar has only one positive case who has recovered. Terming COVID-19 as a highly contagious disease which can affect anyone, the advisory through the bulletin said that for protection against this disease, people are requested to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures and follow the rules of lockdown with utmost sincerity until May 3, 2020. "People are advised to take basic precautions for personal hygiene; frequent hand washing with soap & water; observing coughing & sneezing etiquettes and wearing mask or face cover while moving out of their homes. Similarly, avoid close contact with anyone that has fever and cough. In case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly. People should call on COVID-19 helpline numbers so that they can be provided correct medical advice and directed to the right health facility, if needed," reads the advisory. |
