Restrictions on Shab-e-Qadr, Jumat-ul-wida and Eid-ul-Fitr | To prevent religious assemblages, JK Admin to enforce strict lockdown beyond May 3 | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, May 2: Jammu and Kashmir administration is mulling to extend the lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID19 beyond May 3, this year, sources privy to the development divulged. It is being informed that keeping in view the religious congregations that would take place in view of the Ramadan particularly the Friday congregations, Shab-e-Qadr, Jumat-ul-wida and Eid-ul-Fitr, the government authorities may go for extension of the lockdown period in Jammu and Kashmir. “There are deliberations going on that the lockdown may be extended beyond the fixed date. It is due to the fact that there are apprehensions that if any relaxation is given in any area in Jammu and Kashmir, it could act as a possible catalyst for the spread of COVID-19. Final decision is being taken likely within a day or two,” official sources revealed. It was informed that necessary arrangements are being made to take measures aimed at imposing strict lockdown in red zones areas with religious clerics being taken into confidence to ask people to avoid religious congregations especially the Friday congregations, Shab-e-Qadr, Jumat-ul-wida and Eid-ul-Fitr. “The divisional commissioner Kashmir and the concerned deputy commissioners may hold detailed deliberations with Imaams and Islamic scholars and help will be sought from them to avoid any religious assemblage particularly Eid-ul- Fitr,” says an Official. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday said that total number of Covid positive cases have reached to 614 in the UT and the effective lockdown has helped to prevent the spread of the deadly virus so far. The government, however, said that even “a small premature celebration” can cost the J&K dearly and that an extreme level of alertness needs to be maintained on all fronts which includes wearing a mask and maintaining a proper social distancing while going out. Addressing a press conference in Jammu, the government spokesman Rohit Kansal said that 33 new cases have been tested positive today and the total number of positive cases in the UT have reached to 614. “Of this 390 cases are active in Kashmir and 6 are active in Jammu region. There are 216 recoveries so far and unfortunately there were eight deaths too,” he said Furthermore, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has intimated the central government about the possible measures it is going to take to impose further restrictions across the union territory in view of the Holy Ramadan and the religious congregations that would take place in case any relaxation is given any where. “You may see strict enforcement of the lockdown in coming days and beyond May 3, there will be extension most likely across the erstwhile state,” sources said. |
