In COVID-19 times, J&K BJP unit has nothing to its credit | Leaders hold teleconference with workers highlight PM’s achievements | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 2: Recently Bhartiya Janata Party leaders addressed party workers of both Jammu and Kashmir regions telephonically. A source told Early Times that one of the leaders was assigned the job to arrange the teleconference so that a message could be sent across that the BJP leaders in J&K are not sitting idle. The source said that two top party leaders addressed the workers and counted the achievements of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. These leaders couldn’t highlight even a single achievement of the J&K unit in the ongoing fight against the COVID-19. “One of the party leaders said that after he donated a certain amount for PM’s Cares fund, Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, thanked him for his gesture,” the party leader said. “He had only that much to describe as his contribution in the fight against the pandemic,” the leader added. Its in place to mention here that BJP leaders, especially in Jammu region, have been hogging the headlines for wrong reasons. They indulging in publicity stunts after helping the needy amidst the COVID-19 outbreak has evoked sharp criticism from every quarter. An analyst while talking to this newspaper said, “The BJP leaders in J&K indulging in different kinds of stunts has not helped the party’s cause. The reports about these leaders helping the needy only in their constituencies and trying to consolidate their vote bank and uploading their pictures and videos on the social media seems to have not gone well with the party high command. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 none of the national BJP leaders have even once said that their party unit is doing good work in J&K UT.” An observer said, “The BJP leaders need to put their act together at least in Jammu region. They resorting to acts of desperation has brought the bad name for the saffron party. Its leaders should remember that had the people of Jammu not given them an overwhelming support during the 2014 assembly elections they would not have been able to reach the Civil Secretariat.” He said, “It’s unfortunate that they are under an illusion the people of Jammu have no other option other than to vote for them. Someone needs to tell them that during the past few years alternatives have emerged in Jammu and these new faces cannot be ignored.” Another analyst said that the party top brass should take a “serious note” of the “desperate acts” of these leaders and take stern steps to “invoke discipline” in them. |
