COVID-19 refuses to be cowed down in Kashmir, 25 fresh cases from valley, two from Samba | Positive cases are 666 in JK, 404 active positive, 254 recoveries so far | | Jehangir Rashid

SRINAGAR, May 2: There seems to be no let up in the Corona Virus cases in Kashmir as people continue to test positive for COVID-19. Today 27 fresh cases of Corona Virus surfaced in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir with 25 among coming up in the valley. Reports said that the fresh cases were reported in Srinagar, Anantnag, Shopian, Baramulla and Samba districts of the union territory. Highest number of 15 cases was reported from Srinagar district. In the district 13 cases were reported in the two localities of Rainawari area along with a case each from Solina and Narwara-Eidgah areas. Four fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from Anantnag district followed by Shopian and Baramulla districts with three cases each. Samba district in the Jammu division reported two cases of Corona Virus. With today’s cases the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir is 666. Since 254 COVID-19 patients have recovered and eight such patients have died so far the number of active cases of Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir are 404. The Kashmir valley accounts for 396 active cases of COVID-19 with the number of such cases being eight in the Jammu division. The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 27 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), two from Jammu division and 25 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 666. Out of 666 positive cases, 404 are active positive, 254 have recovered and eight have died. The bulletin said that seven more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals of Kashmir division today. It said that out of 23,460 test results available, 22,794 samples have tested as negative till today. “Furthermore, till date 74,083 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which includes 9,816 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 188 in hospital quarantine, 404 in hospital isolation and 7,174 under home surveillance. Besides, 56,493 persons have completed their surveillance period,” said the bulletin. The bulletin said that Bandipora has 128 positive cases with 91 active positive, 36 recovered, one died; Srinagar has 106 positive cases with 35 active positive, 69 recovered, two died; Anantnag has 99 positive cases with 97 active positive, one died; Baramulla has 88 positive cases with 59 active positive, 26 recovered, three died. “Shopian has 77 positive cases with 58 active positive, 19 recovered; Kupwara has 55 positive cases with 34 active positive, 21 recovered; Budgam 21 positive cases wherein 10 are active positive and 11 recovered cases; Ganderbal has 14 positive cases and all of them have recovered; Kulgam has 11 positive cases with eight active positive and three recoveries and Pulwama has seven positive cases with four active positive, three recovered,” the bulletin said. The bulletin said that Jammu has 26 positive cases and all of them have recovered; Udhampur 20 positive cases of which two are active positive, 17 recovered and one died, while as Samba has six positive cases wherein two are active positive and four have recovered; Rajouri has four positive cases, one active positive and three have recovered; “Kathua has one positive case that is active positive; Kishtwar had only one positive case who has recovered; Ramban has one positive case that is active positive and Reasi has one positive case that is active positive. The breakup represents districts from which the patients have been traced or are ordinarily residing,” said the bulletin. Meanwhile, the advisory issued in the media bulletin urged people to follow the rules of lockdown with utmost sincerity that has been extended, further for a period of two weeks from 4th May 2020. It further said that as a measure for social distancing in public and workplace, wearing a face cover is compulsory. Emphasizing upon the importance of being active at home during the lockdown, the advisory said World Health Organization recommends that all healthy adults do 30 minutes of physical activity daily and children should be physically active for 1 hour per day. Stressing on the early detection of COVID-19 to prevent the spread of disease, advisory said, “let us be responsible for the well-being of ourselves and everyone around us.” |
