UDC demands removal of encroachments of Devika | | | Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, June 28: Anil Paba a social activist and President Udhampur Development Council (UDC) alleged that no demarcation of Devika land, no proper plan for revival of River Devika has been made and even the unauthorized construction and encroachment has not been removed which definitely heart the sentiments of 10 millions soul of Udhampur. While addressing a press conference Anil Paba said that the river Devika at Udhampur which comes under National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) and for which a grant to the tune of Rs 186.54 crores has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change Government of India but till date nothing has been done. Paba said that keeping in view the sentiments of innocent people of Udhampur and sacredness of river Devika, he sent a representation to the President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Prime minister Narendera Modi and other concerned Ministry as well regarding the same. Paba said that on the basis of representation the Government of India Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD and GR, National River Conservation Directorate, Delhi has directed to Director (Planning) Housing and Urban Development Department Government of Jammu and Kashmir Civil Secretariat Jammu to take necessary action to the removal of unauthorized construction and encroachments on the bank of river Devika right from Gangera Hill to Gopal Ghat Mandir and Nainsue Temple at Udhampur.
