Kashmir set to get first ‘wildlife hospital’, Jammu to wait yet again
6/28/2020 11:51:38 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 28: As if the discrimination with the people of Jammu region for the last over seventy years was not enough that now even by wildlife animals of the province are allegedly facing discrimination.
The government has decided to establish the first of its kind ‘health facility’ for wild animals in Kashmir whereas no such proposal seems to be underway for Jammu.
Official sources said the Department of Wildlife has decided to come up with a Wildlife Health Care Centre at Dachigam National Park to provide medical aid to rescued and critically injured animals.
Official sources said the proposed multi-crore facility looks ahead to provide medical aid to rescued and critically injured animals in Dachigam National Park on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Sources said the health center would be equipped with hi-tech facilities like X-Ray and Ultra-sound for the examination of the ailing animals whereas special cages would also be set up for their medical treatment.
Sources said the facility was likely to be constructed by the end of this year.
Official sources said it would be first such sate-of-the-art facility to be developed by the Wildlife department in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu, on the other hand, continues to be story of discrimination with animals and humans, both. In the health sector, Kashmir got its first super specialty hospital the SK Institute of Medical Sciences Soura in 1980 whereas three decades on Jammu is still craving for any such facility. Whereas after the abrogation of the special status, it was expected that the discrimination would end, Kashmir continues to take lead in development activities.
Last year soon after the abrogation of the special status of the then state, the government had introduced a Kashmir- centric market intervention scheme for apple growers of valley whereby the fruit crop worth crores was purchased by the government directly from the growers.
Soon after that the government released special funds for the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Recently dozens of posts were advertised by the SK Institute of Medical Sciences Soura. The establishment of wildlife hospital is another such development.
The government, however, has been assuring that Jammu will get its due share.
