UDA seeks probe in procurement of medical equipments amid COVID-19 scare | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 14: United Democratic Alliance (UDA) resented over irregularities in the procurement of a testing machine for the COVID 19 worth millions of rupees for SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIM) Soura Srinagar. In a statement issued here today, Rajiv Mahajan, Spokesperson UDA said around three months ago, the SKIMS had purchased a testing machine called RNA-Extractor worth millions that is used to test COVID samples from a dealer without calling tenders. He asserted that the aforesaid machine was procured without the reagents or chemicals that are needed for running the machine to do tests. Mahajan is surprised that how the authorities concerned can buy an incomplete machine worth millions and the same is lying idle at the SKIMS laboratory since the day of purchase and that the said dealer has been unable to deliver the reagents. “If the businessman was not having the reagents needed for the tests, what was the fun of buying the machine unless there were some personal interests involved,” Mahajan asserted. Quotating the report of a local daily, Mahajan said that the officials of SKIMS Soura had also misled the Raj Bhawan while claiming that the machine was already in use. “On one hand J&K Government is trying to save money by cutting down on all non-essential expenditures and on the other hand some corrupt officials have been involved in such type of irregularities, suspicion of corruption and favouritism during such hard times,” Mahajan anguished. |
