Rain wreaks havoc in Kishtwar, exposes NHIDCL’s drainage system | | | ASIF IQBAL NAIK Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 21: The dirty water from the blockade of drains has spilled all over the roads in various parts of Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas after rainfall of a few hours as a result of which the people and the shopkeepers had to face tough time. As per the details available with Early Times, the overnight rain had brought the life of the people to standstill with garbage including plastic bottles and polythene spread all over in many parts of the Kishtwar town, particularly in Sangrambata and Sarkoot areas of Kishtwar outskirts. The angry people of Sangrambata told the Early Times day as and when Kishtwar witness rainfall, the village which is situated at the downside of Kishtwar town was flood with garbage and other stuff due to improper drainage and drain blockage right from SSP office to Sangrambata Petrol Pump as a result of which the people not only are facing inconvenience, but also the threat of health hazards due to prevailing COVID 19 pandemic. The people said that they repeatedly requested the executing agencies including National Highway Infrastructure Development Authority of India who is the responsible for maintenance National Highway 44 from Kishtwar to Sinthan Top, but nothing was done by them added that the drain on the upper side of the road is full of garbage and damaged at several places as a result of which the garbage flesh with rainy water spills over the road making the situation difficult for them and called upon the administration to address the issue before the monsoon sea arrive at Kishtwar. Meanwhile, in another similar situation arisen due to rainfall in Sarkoot area of Kishtwar last night- dirty water from drains spilled on the road near famous Sarkoot Gauri Shankar Mandir and it became difficult for the locals to walk on the road. Following Block Development Chairman Kishtwar Suresh Kumar Sharma intervention, the officers of PMGSY and Municipality Officer were contacted on the phone and were informed about the dirty water spilling and closure of the road due to the same reason. Executive Engineer, PMGSY Bashir Ahmed Khanday also visited the spot on the request of BDC Chairman Kishtwar and issued a stern instruction to the Junior Engineer and AEE to repair the roads and drains immediately so that people do not face any difficulty.
