RAMBAN, Aug 28: Environment conservation measures were discussed today at the District Level Environment Committee (DLEC) meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Nazim Zai Khan. The issues pertaining to the conservation and management of natural resources and environment including different activities to preserve and rejuvenate the pounds and other water bodies in the district were discussed threadbare. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ashok Sharma; Chief Medical Officer, General Manager, DIC, District Panchayat Officer(DPO), Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti (PHE), Dy CEO and other concerned officers attended the meeting. The DC directed the DPO to start the renovation and new work to protect as well as develop water bodies like ponds and springs etc. He directed the officer to explore the possibility of constructing a water pond in every village to improve water harvesting scenario in the district. The DPO informed that conservation work of water ponds, besides other water bodies has already been started in Gool and Batote by the concerned BDO under different schemes. The members of DLEC were directed to go through the National Green Tribunal Guidelines and ensure that the directions are implemented in letter and spirit on the ground. The DC asked the Municipal Committees to establish domestic hazardous waste collection points in their areas for its proper disposal. He also stressed on to improve overall parameters of the environment in the district by way of widespread plantation initiatives, curbing the use of plastic/ polythene, improving the disposal of solid waste and hospital waste. “Community participation, mass awareness, strengthening of agencies working for saving the environment, soil and moisture conservation, water conservation, measures aimed at curbing air and water pollution need to be taken on mission mode,” he added. Earlier, the concerned officers apprised the DC about the status of Air, Noise pollution and E-waste, Bio waste, solid waste and liquid waste management in the district.
