Pawar demands immediate relief to flood affected people | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 28: Expressing anguish over failure of the authorities to provide relief to the rain and flood affected residents of Jammu province, Pradesh Mahila Congress president and former MLA Indu Pawar said that all developmental claims of the UT government have been exposed in the recent rain. “I along with Mahila Congress office bearers visited flood affected areas and interacted with people affected by the rain and flood. Except statements, elected representatives of Jammu have done nothing for the last five years,” said Pawar. Launching a direct attack on BJP leaders who claimed to develop Jammu as smart city, she regretted that Saffron Party has backstabbed people of Jammu region because all promises made were yet to be fulfilled. She said that it was failure of the BJP leadership that Jammu wore maximum brunt of flood because BJP’s elected representatives have failed to ensure development in their respective areas. Indu Pawar demanded immediate relief, including cash assistance and free rations, to the flood and rain hit people of Jammu. She asked the authorities to depute high level teams in the affected areas to assess the losses because people have suffered huge losses. Floods wreaked havoc in all districts of Jammu province and Mahila Congress is with the flood affected people. She expressed her anguish over loss of life and colossal damage caused to all sectors including road network, power transformers, bridges etc. She further said that water supply in many areas has been affected due to floods so there was need to restore water supply on war-footing. She expressed deep grief over the deaths due to rain related incidents and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. She also demanded compensation in favour of the next of kin of the deceased. Others who accompanied Mahila Congress president included Pradesh Mahila Congress Vice President Vandana Sharma, General Secretary Suman Choudhury, General Secretary Reeta Kanojia, Ankaksha and Anita.
