JKAP leader remembers sacrifice of farmers of Vijaypur | | | Early Times Report
Vijaypur, Aug 28: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) pays respect at the Samadhi of two farmers who sacrificed their lives for the cause of farmers during an agitation in 1991. Both the farmers, namely Sardar Puran Singh and Romesh Lal were killed in police firing during their agitation in favour of uninterrupted power supply in Vijaypur. In a statement to the press, JKAP Provincial President and Former Minister Manjit Singh garlanded the Samadhi of both the farmers with other farmers of the area. Speaking on the occasion, the JKAP Provincial President said that “The agitation of 1991 is still relevant even today because the department concerned i.e. PDD has failed to improve electricity supply in the assembly constituency.” He said that “We have many times requested to provide uninterrupted electricity supply to the farmers but the unscheduled power cuts still continue in Vijaypur and border villages forcing the farmers to face problems.” “The farmers are the backbone of the nation and the economic growth of the nation will suffer if their problems are not solved,” he said, adding appealed the Government to redress the problems of the farmers in Vijaypur and ensure that they get canal water at the tail-end villages and electricity supply round the clock. He said that due to the covid restrictions, the programme could not be organised in a proper way with a motive to cooperate with the administration to control coronavirus. A symbolic and simple programme was organised at Vijaypur in which only family members of the martyr farmers were present. |
