CCI concerned over lack of adequate medical facilities | Demands to keep in abeyance introduction of property tax | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 14: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu has expressed its serious concern over the situation emanating from the many grave issues that are confronting the citizens of Jammu in general and the business community in particular during this pandemic period. In a meeting held in the chamber office the members while appreciating the prompt measures announced by the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha after the special committee headed by K K Sharma, Advisor submitted its report, expressed their great disappointment that the seriousness in implementing many of the measures announced is apparently lacking at the administrative level. The members expressed concern over the fact that while the government of India has repeatedly stated that there will be no restrictions on movement of people and traffic from one state to another the UT administration has inexplicably created such conditions where people have to wait for hours together at Lakhanpur while entering the UT resulting in undue hardship and harassment to the common man. The Chamber appeals the Lt Governor to intervene and rectify the situation urgently. Another burning issue confronting the citizens is the lack of adequate medical facilities during this period. Instead of providing additional facilities to cater to the increased demand it is a travesty that the health authorities are not even able to maintain the available facilities properly resulting in huge suffering to the common public. Urgent measures must be taken in this direction to ensure safety of human lives. The chamber requests the Lt Governor to keep in abeyance the introduction of the property tax on urban property and also the order whereby a borrower is supposed to pay registration fees on the total value of the mortgaged property instead of the value of the loan amount which was being paid earlier. Other area of concern where authorities have adopted lackadaisical approach is in releasing payments against material supplied to government departments by both trade and industry which are lying pending for more than four years. The chamber also requested the government that in view of the present crisis situation the amnesty scheme for VAT defaulters which is expiring on 31st of October 2020 be extended upto the end of the present financial year.
