All sports activities in Kashmir, leave Jammu dull
Jammuites apprehend Rs 200 Cr discrimination with youth

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 14: With no end to complaints of alleged discrimination with the Jammu region, in the latest, the government is focusing on promotion of multi-crore sports activities, mainly in Kashmir.
Official sources said the Jammu and Kashmir government looks ahead to get special funding of Rs 200 two crores from New Delhi for the promotion of sporting activities in Jammu and Kashmir but that the present trend suggests that the Valley may get the lion’s share of such funds and related benefits from the program.
This is quite visible from the promotion of sporting activities in Kashmir. Despite the deadly outbreak of pandemic which is claiming around a dozen lives in the Union Territory on daily basis, the government is holding multiple sports tournaments in all the districts of Kashmir.
Apart from the civil administration, the district police of all the districts are holding regular sporting events across Kashmir.
Promotion of games like cricket, cycling, football is on the focus in Kashmir. Interestingly apart from senior officials of police and civil administration, even the Advisors to Lieutenant Governor are visiting such sporting events.
But Jammu is yet to get any such major boost in the field of sporting activities while youth of the winter capital region continue to crave for such opportunities.
A senior official said Kashmir was on the focus in the bid to prevent indoctrination of the youth towards anti-national activities.
But the Jammu region has a logical argument to seek it’s just share. Observers say if the region which had been promoting separatist sentiment for the past around three decades gets financial assistance for holding of such sports events on regular basis, what about the youth of Jammu region who have always stood for the cause Indian nationalist sentiment?
“In the name of Kashmir conflict Jammu is being denied its due share of attention and this years of discrimination must end now because we’ve a dynamic Lieutenant Governor who can set things in order,” said an observer.
Meanwhile looking at the focus of sporting activities in Kashmir, the youth of Jammu region have appealed the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to personally look into the matter and provide equal opportunities to both the regions.
